Carolina Preseason #1

I was checking a few sites before I went to bed and saw this article that I thought some of you might be interested in. Carolina just became the first AP top 25 unanimous preseason number 1 ever. They are also only the second team ever to be the preseason number 1 two years in a row (UNLV is the other). The icing on the cake is that this breaks a tie with Duke, giving Carolina the most preseason number 1 rankings of any team.

To be number 1 AND to go ahead of Duke all at the same time…it doesn’t get any better than that!

NC is only #1 because Kansas is in a rebuilding year. :)

You would think that winning the national championship would get Kansas some recruits and they wouldn’t need rebuilding years. Unfortunately for them many the top recruits for the next several years have already signed with Carolina so you are stuck with the second tier players. But Kansas did get ranked #24. It least they made the top 25…they barely made it but they did make it.

Soooo, UNLV is the only other team to be ranked #1 two years in a row, huh? Let’s see… I seem to recall there was a midwestern team coached by Bob Knight at the time that took UNLV to the cleaners despite UNLV’s rule violations, kickbacks, under the table payoffs to players and probably a 0% graduation rate! Hmmmm? So that’s the company UNC is in this year, huh? Sorry to hear it :)

Are we really going to talk about Indiana right now? Didn’t they just fire a coach for recruiting violations? And weren’t they the exact same violations this coach had been fired for at his previous school? Good to see those midwestern teams know how to take a smart risk. With Indiana’s 4 scholarship players this year I don’t think they are going to be beating anyone!

What better time to root for a team than when they are down and need that support. ANYONE can hip hip hooray for the favorite – and they usually do because everyone wants to be associated with a winner (even if they are not one themsleves).
You are absolutely right about that coach. But of course the president & A.D. that hired the crook are also gone. We here in the midwest (with our strong moral values) recognize a wrong quickly, fix it, and move on.
We most surely will beat someone! I am sure they are looking to schedule games with Bethel College, Valparaiso U., Franklin College as well as the Indiana School for the Blind.
p.s. Is that bird droppings to the right of you name???? :)

I was a Carolina fan even during the Doherty years. The 8 and 20 season…I even went to games that year. Other than that it would not be possible to be a Carolina fan when they are down, they are never down.

We have strong moral values here in the south also. We just chose not to cheat in the first place :) .

I heard Indiana was trying to get a few guys from the Indiana School for the Blind to transfer there to strengthen their roster.

Boys, boys, settle down! Gosh, I hope there is a Carolina game on when we are there next week!

They play Penn that Saturday at 4. It’s on Fox Sports South so I don’t know if we will be able to get it up there.
