Looks Like I Am Going To Have To Start Stretching

I have been having some bad knee problems lately on our long runs so I went and saw one of the Physical Therapists that works with Susan today. Susan and I had already talked about me getting some orthotics since I have huge arches and he thought that would be a good idea. I tore cartilage in my knee about 20 years ago and he thinks it is possible that that is what is causing my problem now. He found that I am VERY tight in my hips and hamstrings which was no surprise since I don’t stretch. Susan has always gotten onto me about that and it looks like she is finally going to get her way. He gave me several stretches to do to see if that helps and if not we are going to look at other options. Lets hope the stretching works because I am guessing “other options” will be to clean my knee out surgically (they talked about doing that when I initially hurt it but I didn’t want to).

Soooo it looks like you WILL have to start stretching…..I kept telling you about the benefits but you didn’t want to listen.

I will have to join you and Susan for a run one day.

There is the link to the gel/water bottle I was talking about. Let me know if you want one, that way I can order them all together and we can save on the shipping cost.

We will see if the stretching will help. If it fixes my knee I will keep doing it, but if not…I doubt I will bother.

That bottle looks pretty cool. I will have to talk to Susan to see if she wants one since we have a entire cabinet that overflows with water bottles :) . Here is a video that shows how it works.

Oh, and you can come running with us if you want to run SLOW! I’m a cyclist not a runner.

Wasn’t there an identical post to this several weeks ago? I take it you didn’t learn from it then…maybe this time?!?! It’s that stubborn gene isn’t it?

  6. Mom says:

I think you got that stubborn gene from me. I hate to stretch. I can be well into my exercise routine by the time I finish stretching. Don’t do surgery until all other options have been explored. What about a knee brace.

It was not identical, last time it was my IT Band causing problems :P .

I agree about the stretching, it takes too much time. I don’t plan on having surgery. He didn’t even mention it so I don’t know for sure that is what he was thinking.

  8. Susan says:

Yeah…like your knee and IT problems are mutually exclusive. AS IF! We may be limping into Mom mom’s dinner–we are about to head out for a 16-mile run. Whoo hooo

HELLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO….don’t you realize all that hurting you are doing is from not stretching??? You know, your wife is right on this one. Just stretch. You can’t complain on here any more about hurting if you ARE NOT stretching properly. Duh. No one likes whiners. You can also stretch when you get home after you shower. Get your core body temp up. The only surgery you need is stubborngeneotomy.
