Allergies

Anna has had a ear infection for the past few days. While this is usually no big deal for kids, the doctor usually gives them a antibiotic and everything clears up quickly, it is a little worse for Anna. She has always been allergic to every antibiotic except azithromycin. Whenever she takes antibiotics she breaks out in hives all over and itches real bad. The problem is that azithromycin isn’t very good with ear infections. Because of that we tried to let it pass on it’s own but she was starting to have a hard time in school because it was hard for her to hear with the fluid in her ears. We ended up taking her to the doctor on Tuesday and they put her on azithromycin since that is the only choice. Today there was a call from school that she had a bad rash and was itching so she had to go back to the doctor to get checked out (it was a allergic reaction). They stopped her medicine and now there are no antibiotcs at all that she can take. They want us to talk to a allergy specialist to see if they can desensitize her. Luckily her ear has been getting better and I think it will keep improving now even without the medicine. Hopefully the allergy specialist can do something for her about this allergy for future sake.

Oh, no! Poor Anna! Tripp and I see Dr. Whelan at LeBauer Allergy and asthma (282-2300). She is WONDERFUL. They have an office behind the Brassfield movie theater. She is a pediatrician turned allergist so she is extra great with the kids.
