Boo!!!

1 week before Halloween, Paul and I took the kids to buy their costumes. Anna’s costume was easy from the get go. She wanted to be a vampire. As long as we steered away from the Elvira-type costumes, we were good to go. Tyler on the other hand was much more difficult.

About a month before the big day, Tyler announced that he wanted to be Jason from Friday the 13th movies. First of all, where on earth did he SEE one of those movies. Second of all–he is SIX!!! What comes next in the progression of scariness? Well, I put my foot down–NO WAY! Absolutely NOT! Paul didn’t see anything wrong w it, he voted yes. Stalemate.

Fast forward to shopping day. We pointed out every superhero possible. Tyler wasn’t having any of it: Jason the killer was the only option for the wee one. Sigh… if only we had others to help persuade…

2 weeks before Halloween the debate moved to Robin and Jason’s house. Robin voted no, Jason yes. Stalemate, continued…

Which is how we ended up in the Halloween store smack down. Then as I was trying to find something tough, yet not against the law, I looked at the price tag: $60 for a costume!!!! For a child 4 feet tall!!! Seriously!? Then, as I was sharing this outrage with Paul, Tyler ran up to us w a creepy hockey mask in his hand. Paul took it from him, flipped it over:

$4.99.

The decision was unanimous: we have a serial killer on our hands, people!

Updates before the wild rumpus

Not too much to report really. I am at Camp Crop a Lot right now waiting for breakfast to open at 8am. A couple weeks ago I had moved all of my scrapbook pages to the server at home so Paul could back it up regularly. Alas, I neglected to move them back to my computer before I left Friday to come to camp. So I have none of my projects that were in progress. I did a few traditional pages (about 10), but I cannot put them into an album b/c the order will be wonky b/c I mixing and matching digital. My plan for camp was to have an extended period of time to carefully map out the album mixing digital and traditional. Riiiiggghhhtt.

I guess you could say this is the calm before the storm that is the holiday season for us. We are in the meaty part of our training for the half marathon. The time change and the COLD has really made it a challenge for us. But the race is only 4 weeks away (read: TAPER IN 2 WEEKS!).

Halloween was fun. We took the kids to the Fall Festival at their school on Friday b/c they were Trick or Treating w their mom. It was neat to see them so into their friends (boy, I will regret those words in a few years, huh?).

Halloween morning we walked in my work’s charity 5k for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Anna and Tyler were so cute they got on the “jumbotron.” Anna was REALLY angry that we only did 2 of the 3 miles (we took a shortcut b/c to get back to do all the other fun stuff that day). That was funny b/c 1 week before that she said she “really wasn’t in the mood to walk.” That seems to be a new phrase for her and Tyler. Love it.

Happy Halloween!!!

Wow, what an experience. I learned several things in my first year Halloween-ing w children:

1–we need a 4 wheeler to keep up with the Joneses. I seriously think we were the only ones who walked the neighborhood. Most others rode the 4 wheeler or A TRAILER being pulled by a 4 wheeler. Then we scratch our heads wondering where the childhood obesity epidemic comes from, yeah?

2–Anna and Tyler will be the Michelin (sp?) Man next year. The best costume I can come up with to stuff lots of clothes under.

3–The skeleton with the goalie mask and bloody machete is NOT scary (see pic of Tyler), while the house w the chihuahuas is (we had to talk him into going).

4–2 pieces of candy really means like 15… and it makes bedtime QUITE a bit different.

You can see the rest of the pics here and here–I am about to pass out tired. More tomorrow from the zoo!!!!! (whose idea was THAT?)

and by ante, I mean pre…

Tyler’s daycare is trick or treating to several depts at the the hospital (not mine) today so I took the day off to go w them. I have been looking forward to it for weeks! Welp, major meltdowns this morning included Anna crying b/c she could not wear HER costume to school and Tyler b/c he had to wear a coat over his costume to the bus stop w Anna (it is 32 degrees).

I am SURE this occured in our house regularly growing up (it was always cold for H-ween). I owe huge apologies to my parents–Ma and Pa Edwards, I will blow up your cellie later to beg your forgiveness.
