Sanders Family Hanukkah

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

We are not converting, we are celebrating Paul, Tyler and Anna’s birthdays and Christmas! We started way back in November (about 10 years ago it seems), we had Thanksgiving and visited w my family. But that last 7 days we have had 7 celebrations. Really 7 in 6 days–tonight is a bye night. Here is the summary:

Day 1, 12/17/09: Anna’s 8th birthday. Paul and I met Robin and Jason, and of course Tyler at Rio Grande for Anna’s birthday dinner. Anna chose the restaurant–Rio G won for the 3rd year in a row. I just LOVE this picture of Anna.

Day 2, 12/18/09: Kids Family Birthday Party. Stephanie and Biz planned a party for Anna and Tyler at their house. Sandie, Brandon, Haley, Hunter and Mom Mom all celebrated with us.

Tyler had a Star Wars cake complete w light up light sabers. Anna had a doll cake complete w Barbie-like doll you lifted out of the cake before cutting.

Day 3, 12/19/09: Tyler’s 6th birthday. Before we could celebrate Tyler’s birthday, we had to play in the snow! That’s right, we had about 7 inches of snow on Friday night/Saturday morning. Then we met Robin, Jason and Lacey (their baby) at Chuck E Cheese to celebrate Tyler’s day.

Anna, Tyler and Frosty. This was after sledding off the ramp Paul built for them!

Ahhhh, my NRA reps.

Day 4, 12/20/09: Extended Sanders Family Christmas/Susan’s half birthday. OK, 1 was celebrated a little more than the other, but still…

Paul and me before starting to open presents at MomMom's.

Day 5, 12/21/09: Susan’s manager Christmas party and Cole’s Annual Christmas party.

Day 6, 12/22/09: Celebrated Paul’s birthday at UNC vs. Marshall basketball game!

My first time in the Dean Dome! I mean... me doing whatever Paul wanted to do for his birthday!

Paul and I are vegging out tonight. Tomorrow is Christmas Eve, not sure what the plans are. Then we get the kids on Christmas Day about noon. Then Christmas w Steph and Biz, et. al on Sat afternoon! 9 events in 11 days! Whoooooo hooooooo! Keep in mind this was including 10 loads of laundry, 0 minutes of napping, 3 days of work (which included creating a plan to restructure our cardiac rehab program to make up for $96,000 worth of revenue that we cannot bill for in 2010 and 4 days of 11 state inspectors surveying our hospital), baking 120 cookies and only 30 minutes of physical activity and NO tears shed! Happy Sanders Hanukkah!

We Did It Again

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Back in May Susan and I got sick and gave up our spots in the White Lake half iron distance race. Well this weekend we did it again. We were suppose to run in the Victory Junction half marathon on Sunday, but we had both been sick on and off for the previous 3 weeks.  Because of that we hadn’t run in almost a month. When we woke up in the morning it was 35 degrees and poring rain so we decided not to go (we had really decided the night before).  All and all this hasn’t been our year for races. I had my blister issue in the marathon and we had rain, we were both sick and had to skip White Lake, I was running a fever during the Blues Lake triathlon but did it anyway, blisters again for me at the Mission Man triathlon, and then we got sick and couldn’t do Victory Junction (not to mention the weather). Hopefully next year will turn out better for us as far as races go.

On a brighter note Susan got us tickets to a Carolina game for my birthday so we will be going to that next week. This will be Susan’s first time in the Dean Dome which makes it even more exciting. I went to a exhibition game earlier this year while Susan was at her fall “camp crop a lot” so it will be my second game of the year!

Eric Clapton is coming to Raleigh in March and we got tickets for that this weekend. I had heard a few weeks ago that he is going to be in New York with Jeff Beck in February so I think Susan was relieved when she heard on the radio that he is going to be in Raleigh. She of course made sure to call and let me know right away. Before I heard that I was buying plane tickets and headed to New York. It would be fun to see him with Beck but the cost savings of going to Raleigh instead is too much. So between going to B.B. King, a Carolina game(s), and Clapton we are doing good on the entertainment front…now if our racing would only catch up.

2009 National Champions!!!

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Last night topped of a season that will be hard to beat. Carolina easily beat Michigan State in the national championship game. The game was basically over from the opening tip off.  By 4 minutes into the game Carolina was already up by double digits. Susan and I got a good laugh when the TV camera showed one of the Michigan State players on the bench with about 9 minutes left in the FIRST HALF and he already had the look on his face like they had lost. In the first half Carolina set a new scoring record in the championship game by scoring 55 points in the half. In the process they also set a new record for biggest lead at half time in a championship game, they were wining by 21 points at the half. Making the game even better Ty Lawson had 8 steals which broke the previous record for steal in the championship game. The record was previous record was 7 held by both Tommy Amaker (from Duke which is why this is so great!) and Mookie Blaylock.

During the regular season Carolina beat Duke twice, won the ACC regular season and Tyler Hansbrough became the ACC’s all time scoring leader. The previous ACC scoring leader was the much hated JJ Redick from Duke so that makes the scoring record all that much better. The regular season alone was enough for a great season and winning the national championship just adds icing to the cake.

With all of this I was already very happy this morning (although VERY tired from staying up so late). Things got better when I woke the kids up. The first thing Anna said when I went is was “did Carolina win?” When I told them they did they were both very excited. Tyler said that no one should play Carolina any more because they are too good and can’t lose. Then when he came out of his room excited about the clothes he had picked out it made things even better!

A Friend of mine sent me Carolina’s new logo.  Hopefully it doesn’t stay this way for Saturday’s game.

Back To #1

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

With Carolina’s win over Duke last Sunday they moved back to #1 in the nation and won the ACC regular season. Now all they need to do to make it a prefect season is to make it farther in the ACC tournament and the NCAA tournament than Duke. To win both of those tournaments would be great also, but beating Duke in both games this year already makes for a prefect year!

Second Of The Two Most Important Days Of The Year

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

Today at 4  is second of the two most important days of the year…the second Carolina vs. Duke game. This game is huge because if Carolina wins then they win the ACC regular season; if they lose they share the regular season #1 with Duke. On top of that UNC is #2 in the nation right now and UCONN (the current #1) just lost so there is a chance Carolina could move back to #1 in the nation. Pitt is currently #3 and they beat UCONN so they may get the #1 but Carolina doesn’t even have a chance for it if they don’t beat Duke.

Four In A Row At Cameron!!!

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Tonight in the Carolina vs Duke game on TV they kept talking about how the Dookies camped out since the beginning of January to get tickets to the game tonight. Well they just spent all that time to watch Duke lose their 4th straight game at Cameron to Carolina! Carolina won 101 to 87.

First Of The Two Most Important Days Of The Year

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Tonight is one of the two most important nights of the year…The first Carolina vs. Duke game is tonight. The game is on RAYCOM for the locals and ESPN for everyone else (that’s right, the game is so important is it on more than one channel) at 9pm. This game will help determine my mood from now until March 8th (the date of the second game) so if nothing else route for Carolina for Susan’s sake.

Randomness

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Soooo… not much going on so not much to post. Which is FINE with us. After the madness that is party-palooza in December, January’s “boredom” is bliss.

We are still training for Myrtle Beach weekend. We might even be getting faster. Tonight we ran 9 miles in 93 minutes. I am usually a 12 min miler (and drag Paul down w me) so this was FAST for us! Plus it was about 30 degrees. ugh. Treadmill tomorrow–its supposed to be 12 in the morning. I did not move to NC for cold.

We have been watching lots of college hoops. Paul is having apoplexy over UNC’s performance lately. Can’t blame him. I don’t stay up past 8pm to watch them lose! :)

My goals? We have posted a fruit and veggie page. Check back often to see my progress. I am improving my eating habits slowly but surely thanks to Paul and his great cooking. I am attending the NC Women’s Conference in a couple weeks and very excited about that, especially as it relates to my search to be “well rounded” w/o trying to be Superwoman. I always did like Wonder Woman better anyway. I just know my goal for this week is to finally iron my khaki pants. Maybe tomorrow…

Change of Plans for New Year’s Eve

Monday, December 29th, 2008

Susan was talking to Elli about our New Year’s Eve plans while we were in Florida and Elli didn’t think she was telling the truth. Our plans were to bury a time capsule with the kids and be in bed by 9. When Elli asked me I thought 9 was a little late and that we would probably be in bed by 8:30.

I vary rarely make it until midnight but this year I am going to try my best. Why? Because Susan and I are sitting here watching the Georgetown/UConn game and we saw that Carolina is playing at 10 pm that night. If the game starts at 10 it won’t be over until around 12 so I will try to stay up for that. I could still care less about staying up for the new year though :) . We are riding with Tamara on the 1st at noon so Susan is going to have a hard time getting in her 11 hours of sleep that she needs (although I doubt she is going to stay up to watch the game with me).
